I meant to write a new piece for this blog but life got away from me. While looking for a replacement, I did not find anything whole, but a few interesting short scenes that I thought were kind of enjoyable. Let me know if you’d want me to expand on any of them.
Something fantasy:
“You shouldn’t have come here,” Jacob said, grabbing my wrist.
“I know,” I replied, “But I couldn’t control myself.”
“What does that mean?” Jacob asked, twisting my arm.
I winced. “I felt like I was being… pulled.”
“Pulled?” Jacob released me. “Explain.”
“I don’t know,” I answered, looking down. “It was like I had to be here.”
“Hmmm,” Jacob mused. He looked at me strangely, and walked to one of the tables. Carefully, he opened an ornate box I had not noticed there before. Taking a deep breath, he gently pulled out a long pendant.
It glittered, even in the dim light, and as Jacob slowly brought it to me, I saw that its chain had no certain color; it changed from color to color with every second. Its jewel was clear, and the only reason I could see it was because it shone like a small star.
“It’s beautiful,” I breathed.
Jacob nodded. “Hold out your hands,” he told me. I quickly obeyed and gasped when he gently placed the necklace in my hand. It was heavy, and the jewel was only a bit too warm for comfort.
“If it starts to hurt, hand it back immediately,” Jacob instructed.
I shook my head. “No, it doesn’t hurt,” I replied. “What is it?”
“A destiny,” Jacob answered. “A promise of a story long ago.”
